News for July
Life. Life continues to be interesting. The last month and a half has brought both highs and lows.
Winning #HowDoYouCopic
First, some great news. Thanks to all of you, I won the #HowDoYouCopic contest. Thank you for putting up with the endless reblogs on my Copic video. With the $500, I bought new markers & replaced a hunk of damaged, secondhand ones. Thanks so much. I'm really indebted to all of you who shared my video on your social feeds.
I had wanted to get to work straight away posting tutorials and updates as a thank you! But on the day the Copics arrived...
My Twiggy
...something sad happened. I went out to the studio, and about two hours into inking, Erin came to get me at the Mill and said that Twiggy was dead. My Twiggy. Twigs was a rat terrier someone dumped at the end of our road. Back then, I washed her up and snuck her in the house. She was such a nice dog...everyone loved her. I often posted pics of her to my social media. She was my shadow.
No one knows quite what happened. She was lying by the window near her doggy bed and appeared to have suffered some kind of fall. After talking to the vet, he thinks with her history that perhaps she had a heart attack and that's why her bed area was in disarray, because she might have panicked and struggled when it happened.
It was really hard to bury her that night. She was my friend.
Twiggy the first day followed by one of my last picture sets of her.
Comic Apprenticeship
But back to life... I had to take things a bit slow to grieve. I tend to bottle things up like I'm made of stone, but eventually proper grieving happens. Nonetheless, I'm trying to get back in the groove and continuing to learn how to ink with a brush.
It is really tough, especially getting the proper pattern and fine hairs down, but I like that. I am currently learning to ink with a Scharff size 4 brush (fine line 3000) and aim to gain better control over contrast, pattern, and line. I hope to share some of my progress on the loomcomics.com/blog in coming days. I'm enjoying specific, heavy-handed critique and I really hope it pushes me to improve myself in coming months.
Vampire Hunter Jude Trailer #1
How do you like it? I had wanted to make sure I got it released after winning #HowDoYouCopic. It's my thank you to all of you. It features the wonderful Mike Morris as Jude Hawthorne. I would really appreciate comments, likes, or sharing if you've got a minute!
