Musings on Paneling
04: Little 2, Big 2
AKA TUTUS! (Two-two's! Get it? Get it?)

Putting 2's to work! The 2's create a zigzag!

Eh, this is my last one for a long while. I have a million more ideas (cause I feel like I have to try everything out at least once *_*) but I will spare you that! I did 4 tuts though, and hopefully they're simple enough not to bore you with strange ramblings and long words. NOOO MOOOREEE WOOORDS. I'm going to go crawl into a hole now. Where's is dark, quiet, and dreamy.

Ahhh, it's a little embarrassing to answer, but at the time these were my mini-thoughts about my webcomic Vampire Hunter Jude. it grew out of conversations I had with my sister over how I approached experimenting with paneling. ^^

Thanks, Mink. I tried to be laidback. I personally think paneling is really all about experimentation! I'm glad you liked the examples. For my own tutorials, I didn't want to use other people's page and potentially infringe on copyright, soo... :D Yay! I'm so glad you liked them!

I don't! But I'd love to be let in the know. I looked it up on Google but had no luck finding out. What's the reference to? :3

Hehe it is a spoof on famous detectives,
A movie called "Murder by Death"
it has some iffy humor, and stereotypical jabs.
However I believe they are more so making fun
of the stereotypes types than the people.

Other that, it is what I quote obsessively,
the bread and butter of stupidly funny detective movies.

And it has Peter Sellers.... ; v ;

Oh? I will look for it! Is it like a spoof of oldies like Auguste Dupin and Monsieur Lecoq? Or more like the detectives in old movies and stuff?

I'll definitely look it up! :D

but by having William over the first isn't there a possibility that people would go from the first panel to him and then to the second panel?...well I guess even if someone reads it like that it doesn't change a lot

Oh, yeah, it can. Which is just fine. I would hope that a revelation would feel somewhat simultaneous and shocking. :) There's certainly no secret that sometimes loads of things are kind of read in tandem with one another.

I've read all four of these paneling tuts and they're all just FABULOUS. I never understood paneling before and how to effectively lead the eye aroound a page, but these explain it just perfectly. I'll be returning in the future to reference these! Thank you sooooo much!!!

This is not only a good explanation on how to make a comic book page, but also on how to read/see/interpret one. Like, this could be used in a literary studies class to introduce students to the idea of considering the page layout in their interpretation! well done!

HAHAHAA. I loved this part! Love seeing the two and zigzag approach in action. I notice that even the sound effects sort of follow the directions of the designs on this one. Is that on purpose, as well? I am just blown away by these! They SEEM so simple and yet they're not!!!

Ahhh, sound effects. I try for it when I can. I kinda go off what looks good to me. There time when they're there to add in some black value or just to create plain diagonals, so noting is locked in. Sometimes, yes and sometimes no?

:iconguaahplz: I should pay more attention, I guess.

I feel like I learn so much from these! I'm usually just like "Make it read left to right" without any real consideration for layout. ^^; But having it in these bite-sized versions makes it much easier to remember. I can't wait to try this out for myself! :D
